  Inter-Library Loans

An Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a transaction in which library material, or a copy of the material, is made available by one library to another upon request.

The following guidelines apply to ILL borrowing through the Huntington Beach Public Library:

  • A patron must have a valid Huntington Beach Library card to request ILLs.

  • Books requested must be at least one year old and be valued at more than $5.00.

  • Most ILLs are received in 2-6 weeks.  However, there are many exceptions to this, so staff cannot give a specific date when an ILL will arrive.

  • Books are to be picked up and returned to the Reference Desk.

  • The loan period for ILL items is three weeks.

  • ILLs may not be returned in the book drop.  Return ILLs to the Reference Desk.

  • ILLs not returned by the date due are subject to overdue fees of $.25 per day, plus any fees assigned by the library owning the item.

  • All checkout slips and paper strips on the book must be left intact.

  • If the only available lender for an item charges a loan fee, patrons have the option of paying this additional fee in order to receive the material.  All free lending sources are pursued first.

  • ILL items cannot be renewed.

  • There are fees associated with ILL services.
