Huntington Beach Disasters in 1933

 

This 12-page document by Vicky Contreras describes two disaster events that happened in Huntington Beach in 1933.  The first was the January Gale that took place on January 10, 1933 that caused significant damage to homes, buildings and oil fields throughout Huntington Beach.  The second event was an earthquake that took place on March 10, 1933, again causing wide-spread damage to buildings, homes, schools, etc., and causing 119 fatalities.

The Bigger One – A scenario of the First 24 Hours After a 7.5 Earthquake on the Newport-Inglewood Fault

 

An article from the Los Angeles Times Magazine of November 29,1987, that describes a ffictional account of a magnitude 7.5 earthquake on the Newport-Inglewood fault as it might occur sometime in the near future.  The scenarious were written by California seismologists based on studies done by the U.S. Geological Survey, the California Division fo Mines and Genology, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

A series of articles from the Orange County Register of April 1989, discussing the 4.6 earthquake that occurred along the Newport-Inglewood fault on April 7, 1989.  The earthquake was a strike-slip fault, centered 8-10 miles below the surface in Newport Beach.
